Broadcom and ShanghaiTech University Announce an Alliance to Create a Wi-Fi City Program and Internet of Things Joint Innovation Center Programs to Accelerate Wi-Fi, IoT and Wearable Innovation

Broadcom Corporation (NASDAQ: BRCM), a global innovation leader in semiconductor solutions for wired and wireless communications, today announced an alliance with ShanghaiTech University to bring enhanced Wi-Fi infrastructure to Shanghai and to accelerate product development for the rapidly growing Internet of Things (IoT) market. The Alliance Signing Ceremony was held at the Broadcom Asia Media Summit in Shanghai on March 19.

Based on a combined interest, Broadcom and ShanghaiTech University will collaborate on a joint "Wi-Fi City" program and establish an IoT Joint Innovation Center (JIC).

The goal of the Wi-Fi City program is to deploy a carrier grade Wireless LAN network on the school's new campus. Once the pilot project is complete, the two organizations intend to roll out the networks in increasingly larger geographic areas. The JIC will be focused on developing reference designs that foster the advancement of wearable and other connected devices in the region.

In attendance at the Signing Ceremony were Dr. Jiang Mianheng, President, ShanghaiTech University, Mr. Chen Mingbo, Deputy Director, Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality, Dr. Wang Xi, Director General, Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology and China Academy of Science Academician, Broadcom CEO and President Scott McGregor, and Broadcom Senior Vice President of Sales and President of Greater China Dr. Ting Wei Li. The documents were signed by Broadcom Executive Vice President of Sales Michael Hurlston, ShanghaiTech Vice President Dr. Yin Jie and other involved partners.
