Donaldson BOFA launches ‘Shield’ for 3D print operations

Donaldson BOFA has launched the ‘Shield’ - a self-assembly 3D print enclosure designed to reduce exposure to emissions while helping to maintain a stable temperature environment, critical for additive manufacturing processes.

Shield can house open-framed printers used in settings such as dental laboratories, schools, colleges and universities, design shops and small-scale print farms. It helps guard against temperature fluctuations that can degrade product quality in extrusion-based processes caused, for example, by drafts from open windows or doors.

The enclosure is deliberately oversized for easy print removal or consumable replacement and can be bundled with a number of Donaldson BOFA fume extraction systems. It helps to reduce potential exposure to the airborne nanoparticles and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) known to be released during processes such as material extrusion, resin 3D printing and post-processing.

Bruno Cinto, Product Specialist at Donaldson BOFA commented: “This new robust enclosure will not only help to maintain temperature and airflow stability in open-framed printers, it will also contribute to a more comfortable workplace environment by reducing the odor and noise associated with additive manufacturing.”

The Shield comes as a flat-pack design and is assembled in eight simple steps. It features a metal casing with acrylic panels for ease of print visibility, has dual access points at the top and front, is fully configurable with multiple feed-through options, and includes adjustable door orientation.

Says Bruno: “Shield is ideal for an agile working environment, weighing only 20 kilos, so it can easily be moved around to where it is needed. It can be bundled with Donaldson BOFA 3D PrintPRO 3 and V 600 extraction systems.”
