Heraeus AMLOY receives German Innovation Award

The German Design Council honors amorphous alloys from Heraeus AMLOY gold in the "Materials & Surfaces" section of the "Excellence in Business to Business" competition class.

The German Design Council honors Heraeus AMLOY with the German Innovation Award. The specialist for the production and processing of amorphous metals receives Gold in the category Materials & Surfaces in the competition class Excellence in Business to Business. The jury judges the amorphous alloys from Heraeus AMLOY as a revolutionary material. Its unique combination of properties opens up exciting possibilities for a wide range of industries such as aviation, automotive, medicine and many others, creating a completely new market.*

Amorphous metals are also called bulk metallic glasses and are frozen metallic melts. Due to the shock freezing of the melt, the individual atoms have no opportunity to form an ordered metal lattice. The resulting material is particularly flexible and at the same time extremely stable, corrosion and abrasion resistant and biocompatible. "The special properties of amorphous metals offer great potential for innovations in a variety of industries," says Jürgen Wachter, Head of Heraeus AMLOY. The company processes amorphous alloys both in injection molding and 3D printing to near-net-shape components on an industrial scale.

The German Innovation Award will be presented for the third time this year. "The focus of the evaluation of the submitted innovations is user-centric. This is the distinguishing feature of the German Innovation Award", explains Lutz Dietzold, Managing Director of the German Design Council. "This is particularly successful if the future users are involved in product and design development at an early stage. Many companies have recognized this and are using appropriate methods to identify real customer needs and develop economically relevant products based on these needs". The German Design Council was founded by the German Bundestag and is sponsored by German industry. Since 1953, the competitions have honoured design, brand and innovation achievements of international standing.
