For its 30th anniversary, Prolight + Sound is presenting the winners of the Opus and Sinus Awards 2025. This year's laureates impressively demonstrate how the combination of technology and creativity can create unforgettable experiences. From the fusion of classical art with modern technologies to emotionally moving sound and light concepts – these projects invite you to experience art in a new way. The awards will be presented at a festive gala event during Prolight + Sound 2025 (8 to 11 April).
Opus and Sinus Awards 2025: Emotions and technology in harmony
The Opus Award is being realigned this year, including a change of name: Formerly known as the ‘Opus – German Stage Award’, in the future the award will be presented as the ‘Opus – International Stage Award’ and will also take account of projects from outside Germany.
Another new development: in addition to the ‘Opus – International Stage Award’, the ‘Opus Event Lighting’, ‘Opus Immersive Sound’ and ‘Opus Camera & Image’ awards will be presented for the first time in 2025. The focus is on extraordinary lighting, immersive sound experiences and outstanding use of camera and image technology. The ‘Opus Camera & Image’ is awarded in close cooperation with the German Federal Association of Television Cameramen (BVFK).
The ‘Sinus – Systems Integration Award’ will once again honour a pioneering solution in the field of systems integration. Patrons of the award are The German Entertainment Technology Association (VPLT), the European Association of Event Centres (EVVC) and Messe Frankfurt.
This year, for the first time, the decision-making process included a public vote. Until now, the winners have been chosen exclusively by an expert jury consisting of association members, representatives of Messe Frankfurt and other experts.
The awards will be presented on the Thursday of the fair, 10 April 2025, during a festive gala evening at the Steigenberger Icon Frankfurter Hof.

Winner of the ‘Opus – International Stage Award’ 2025:
A digital ‘Ring of the Nibelung’ – flora&faunavisions reinterprets Wagner
The Berlin-based creative agency flora&faunavisions has been awarded the ‘Opus – International Stage Award’ 2025 for its visionary ‘Ring Cycle’. The spectacular new production of Wagner's ‘Ring of the Nibelung’ combines classical opera theatre with state- of-the-art technology – transforming the stage into a contemporary fantasy world with 83 musicians, 102 voices and 200 people behind the scenes.
In this groundbreaking production, motion sensors, interactive costumes and synchronised animations meet movable LED screens, motion tracking and AI-generated content. The seamless interaction of these elements creates a dynamic, visually stunning atmosphere. Particularly impressive: a 3D-scanned, seven-metre-high bonsai tree that dominates the stage set in ‘Die Walküre’.
The critically acclaimed production sets a new benchmark for large-scale opera productions that preserve Wagner's vision while appealing to new audiences. Leigh Sachwitz, founder of flora&faunavisions, explains: ‘We have to embrace technology and use it as a tool to create great things. If we can do that, we can also reach younger audiences.’
Winner of the ‘Opus Immersive Sound’ Award 2025: ‘Visitor’ – a sound installation by Christo Squier
The British composer and creative director Christo Squier, winner of the ‘Opus Immersive Sound’ award, has created a unique sound installation called ‘Visitor’ that converts cosmic muons into light and sound in real time.
A specially developed detector translates the energy of these cosmic particles into sounds and visual effects, while eight strategically placed loudspeakers embed the audience in an immersive soundscape.
The work blurs the boundaries between science and art in a unique way – and invites the audience to reflect on the fragility of our existence and the mystery of the invisible forces around us.
Winner of the ‘Opus Event Lighting’ Award 2025:
Lighting design for ‘Heaven & Dirt’ – B'in Live stages music visually
The ‘Opus Event Lighting’ award goes to the Taiwan-based production company B'in Live for its impressive design of the ‘Heaven & Dirt’ concert by the band deca joins. A unique circular light installation combined with 600 movable, semi-transparent LED elements was used to symbolically implement the themes of heaven and earth. The lighting design enhanced the poetic and artistic depth of the music without overshadowing the natural dynamics of the band.
The carefully orchestrated combination of light, space and sound gave the audience an intense, emotional concert experience, with the aim of giving each visitor the space to have a profound musical experience with the band.
Winner of the ‘Opus Camera & Image’ Award 2025:
Outstanding Camera Work – Bundesliga Football Production by Sportcast
The cameramen at Sportcast GmbH have been honoured with the ‘Opus Camera & Image’ award for their impressive work in the production of Bundesliga football. As host broadcaster, Sportcast has been providing the base feed for all Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 matches since the 2006/07 season. Each season, the company produces 617 matches and ensures that the images are broadcast in over 200 countries worldwide.
A dynamic and detailed picture of the game is created using a mix of standard and special cameras, including aerial systems, super slow-motion cams and cinematic-look cameras. The image composition follows dramaturgical priorities, in order to capture emotions, tactical details and exciting moments for the viewers. Furthermore, numerous matches are produced in UHD-HDR, whereby the visual quality of the production is raised to a new level. By combining technical expertise with a deep understanding of the game, the cameramen working for Sportcast make a decisive contribution to the Bundesliga's media presence.

The Open Ground Club as a space for sustainable innovation
The ‘Sinus – Systems Integration Award’ 2025 goes to the Open Ground Club in Wuppertal. The modern event centre impresses with sustainable technology and innovative design, combining originality and technical excellence in a unique way. The club's investor is Thomas Riedel, CEO of Riedel Communications.
The centrepiece of the venue is a Funktion-One sound system with 32-inch bass speakers. All rooms were acoustically equipped by the specialists Wax Acoustics according to the concept of free-field simulation to ensure an optimal, undistorted sound experience. This is combined with energy-efficient, flexibly adaptable lighting systems and a central control platform that allows intuitive control of all AV components.
With its special facilities, the Open Ground Club has established itself as a centre for innovative and sustainable events – and shows how technical sophistication and ecology can be effectively combined.
