45 new apprentices and dual students at Linde Material Handling

35 apprentices and ten students on the dual system are starting their career at Linde Material Handling this week. This means that the goods handling specialist's commitment to the professional development of young people remains at a high level. In addition to eight industrial-technical and two commercial apprenticeships, there are six different fields of study. A new addition is the dual course of study "Integrated Engineering", which enables the company to recruit its own automation specialists.

The largest group of apprenticeships at Linde Material Handling continues to be the industrial/technical apprenticeships. This year, it is mainly mechatronics engineers and mechanics specialising in manufacturing, industry, design, foundry and machining. In addition, there are electronics technicians for industrial engineering and specialists for warehouse logistics. Office management assistants and industrial clerks are being prepared for future fields of activity in administration.
The dual students are studying mechanical engineering and industrial engineering, business informatics and business administration (BWL) with various specialisations. Terms such as "Digital Business Management", "Application Management" or "Integrated Engineering" reflect the development towards greater digitisation and automation in the business environment. On 1 September 2020, Linde MH had a total of 148 apprentices spread over three years. The largest group here too: mechatronics engineers, followed by electronics engineers and industrial clerks. Among the dual students, 37 young people are in total, most of whom are in industrial engineering and management.
"In-house training is and will remain a recipe for success," says Christopher Klix, head of training at Linde Material Handling, with conviction. "The young people acquire a comprehensive set of skills and knowledge, which opens many doors for them after graduation - either in the training company or in another company. Conversely, the company also benefits from the young employees, who are all offered at least one temporary position after completing their training: "Employees with first-class training are a key factor in our company's success. It is therefore in our own interest to train qualified specialists ourselves," Klix emphasises.
The head of training proudly points out that Linde Material Handling, as a globally active manufacturer of industrial trucks, offers particularly good conditions and opportunities to young people starting out on their careers. The "base camp" is the 2,000 square metre, technically well-equipped training centre at the Aschaffenburg-Nilkheim site. On two floors there are CNC machines, an electronics room, test benches, workbenches and various training rooms. The 10 specialist trainers and the supervisors in the specialist departments also play a major role in the success of the training. They impart theoretical knowledge to the young people, teach them practical skills and prepare them for the intermediate and final examinations. "Right from the start, we at Linde MH have placed great emphasis on independent work," Klix emphasises. In the second or third year of training, those starting their careers can complete a "project-integrated apprenticeship (PiA)": In a team of several people, a concrete measure is planned, implemented and presented at the end. Such as an emergency column with first aid kit, emergency telephone and defibrillator, for example, which was installed in a new production hall in 2018 and was awarded the Occupational Safety Prize of the Berufsgenossenschaft Holz & Metall (BGHM).
Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, there will be some organisational changes at the start of the training: In order to maintain the prescribed minimum distance in the training centre, the newcomers will start at a later date. In addition, mobile working has been part of the programme for this training year from the very beginning: Theoretical knowledge will be taught partly on the computer in their own four walls.
