Integrated stepper motor drive convinces as an industrial solution

In the field of drive technology, Beckhoff presents the ASI8100 integrated stepper motor drive, a compact, cost-effective and industrial-grade solution for machines without control cabinets.

In combination with the motion control solutions of the TwinCAT automation software, the drive technology from Beckhoff Automation, based in Verl in East Westphalia, Germany, represents a complete drive system.

The PC-based control technology from Beckhoff is particularly well equipped for single-axis and multi-axis positioning tasks with highly dynamic requirements. The AX5000 and AX8000 Servo Drive series with powerful EtherCAT system communication, for example, are designed to offer maximum performance and dynamics. Servomotors with One Cable Technology (OCT), in which the power and feedback systems are combined in the standard motor cable, reduce material and commissioning costs.

The ASI8100 integrated stepper motor drive has now been introduced as the latest addition to Beckhoff's extensive motion portfolio. In the product range of compact drive technology up to 48 volts DC, it combines both stepper motor and stepper motor output stage as well as fieldbus connection in a space-saving design for all motion requirements in the power range up to 250 watts. As an EtherCAT slave, the ASI8100 can be placed directly on the machine without a control cabinet and without an upstream I/O level, making it possible to implement compact machines without a control cabinet. Monitoring is carried out via the integrated status LEDs. The ASI8100 stepper motor drives can optionally be combined with AG2250 low-backlash planetary gearboxes. The standardized M8 (for EtherCAT) and M12 connectors (L-coded for power) are designed to enable cost-effective, industrial-grade connection technology.
