SilMach’s awarded a Micron d’Or at Micronora 2024 for its PowerMEMS technology

SilMach, France’s pioneering deeptech for silicon micromechanics, has been conferred a Micron d’Or at Micronora 2024 within the “Microtechnology components and sub-assemblies” category, for its PowerMEMS solutions, developed to power mobile solutions such as watches, smart devices and medical equipment.

The Micronora trade fair will take place in Besançon, France from 24-27 September, and brings together leading actors in microtechnology to highlight high-precision innovations.

Every two years, Micronora, the world’s leading trade fair for the microtechnology and high-precision sectors confers its Microns d’Or to recognise innovative breakthroughs. Conferred by a jury of industry experts and researchers, the awards cover three categories: machinery & equipment, microtechnology components and sub-assemblies, and intelligent systems and softwares.

With a Micron d'Or in the "microtechnology components and sub-assemblies" category, this marks SilMach’s third Micron d’Or overall, having previously received the award in 2004 and 2014. It also marks a second award for the PowerMEMS technology, following a Best of Innovation award at CES 2024.

Putting silicon micromotors at the heart of technology of the future

Designed to power mobile systems, PowerMEMS makes it possible to achieve high-level mechanical performance, allowing a wide range of precision use cases and exceptional battery life thanks to its low power consumption. Based on the desired application, PowerMEMS is linked to a microchip to operate both linear (opening panels or hatches) or rotary (valves or geared parts) mechanisms.

Compact, inert to magnetic fields, and lightweight, these solutions allow great control in driving mechanical parts in highly confined environments, with exceptional durability and lubricant-free operation. It is also possible to vary the operating frequency from a fraction of a Hz to 100Hz, unlocking a large range of potential uses for the aerospace, construction, transport, medical and watchmaking sectors.

Jean-Baptiste Carnet, co-CEO of SilMach, said, “We are honored to receive this award and thank the Micronora team for their continued support in promoting innovation in the region. We are grateful for their support, which reinforces the value proposition of our products for embedded electronics and accelerates its integration into upcoming technologies.”
