Suntech Supplies 9.3 Megawatts of Modules to Indian Solar Plant

The recently completed solar power plant is expected to generate 13,000 MWh of electricity per year.

Suntech has recently supplied 9.3 MW to a solar power plant in India that is expected to generate 13,000 MWh of electricity per year and power approximately 32,000 households in Mundra, Gujarat, India. Suntech supplied a total of 36,470 modules to the power plant that has been developed by Adani Power Ltd., one of the largest private power producers in India. The project is completed and fully connected to the grid.

"We are excited to collaborate with Adani Power to develop and deploy solar solutions in India," said Xiong Haibo, president of Suntech. "Similar to China, India is faced with rampant air pollution due to increased industrial emissions. This poor air quality coupled with rapid urbanization negatively affects the livelihood and health of the country's citizens. The recently completed 9.3 MW solar power plant will reduce approximately 11,000 tons of carbon emissions annually in the state of Gujarat. This project demonstrates another step forward in Suntech's mission to deploy cost efficient and energy efficient solutions for a cleaner future."

Mr. Vneet S Jaain, CEO of Adani Power, the power subsidiary of the Adani Group, said "we specifically chose Suntech to supply modules to the Mundra power plant project as the company holds an excellent reputation and has a proven track record in providing quality customer service and unmatched durable, highly-efficient panels. Suntech's weather-resistant modules are perfectly suited for India's hot and humid climate, providing optimal daylight power generation. By equipping this project with quality technological components and smart engineering, we are confident that this solar plant will be a demonstrative example of solar energy's viability as a powerful natural energy source capable of powering India's burgeoning market. We are confident that the success of this plant will serve as a foundation for future collaboration with Suntech in the India market."

The state of Gujarat is leading region in India in solar installations. It contributes to approximately 929 MWs out of 3,003 MWs of the country's commissioned photovoltaic capacity. More than 400 million people in India live without access to electricity, mostly due to the lack of grid access. Frequent voluntary blackouts are instated to conserve the country's scarce resources. India houses the largest population globally without gird access. The recently completed Adani-Suntech Mundra power plant helps to enhance energy access, mitigate energy poverty, and accelerate India's mission to reach its 100GW 2020 solar target.
