"Too good to have just one": DREWSEN SPEZIALPAPIERE invests in second Questec sheeter from BW Papersystems

Since DREWSEN SPEZIALPAPIERE produces and processes special papers, the traditional paper manufacturer needs a special sheeter: the versatile and fast Questec from BW Papersystems. A first system was installed at the beginning of 2022 and has more than met the high expectations. Now a second Questec is being added – for additional production capacity and greater efficiency.

Since the beginning of 2022, the first Questec sheeter has been added to the sheeting division of DREWSEN SPEZIALPAPIERE GmbH & Co. KG, based in Lachendorf near Celle. The paper producer is now investing in a second of these special all-round machines from BW Papersystems, which offers a constant production speed of 400 m/min, even with lightweight papers and other challenging paper types.
"We process a wide range of papers on the Questec, from 40 g/m2 to grammages of 300 g/m2. The fast changeover time, excellent format accuracy and high stack quality make the Questec the perfect solution for smaller quantities. The Questec is too good to have just one," says Dr. Matthias Rauhut, CEO of DREWSEN SPEZIALPAPIERE, explaining the investment decision.
Questec output volume 10% above plan
With around one ton per hour and an output of 10% above plan, the existing Questec is producing more than expected. The aim now is to systematically and efficiently relocate further orders from new customers and older cross cutters so that DREWSEN SPEZIALPAPIERE can achieve greater efficiency and additional production capacity with the "twin".
"We are very pleased that the Questec is so helpful for DREWSEN - that's why we developed it, it should combine as many advantages as possible: fast and flexible with high cutting and register accuracy, material-friendly sheet transport by air, accurate stacking, low floor space requirements – the list is quite long. And there is no greater compliment to the engineers than a second order," says Patrick Walczak, Senior Vice President Sales at BW Papersystems.
Halved scrap rate thanks to Questec sheeter
Installation of the new machine is planned for mid 2024. Thanks to its compact design, the system will be easily integrated into the existing converting department.
The scrap rate has been halved compared to conventional cross cutters, says Jörg Liebig, Equipment Operations Engineer at DREWSEN SPEZIALPAPIERE. "Thanks to the job memory, the system is quick and easy to operate, and it is also ergonomically accessible because it does not require a platform."
The purchase of the second Questec is the latest chapter in the long-term and successful partnership of DREWSEN SPEZIALPAPIERE and BW Papersystems. DREWSEN's experience and optimization requests have already been incorporated into the planning and implementation of the previous machine - a systematic cooperation in development and operation from which both sides benefit.
