The New York Times today launched The New York Times on Flipboard for Android and Kindle Fire, which delivers the latest news and award-winning journalism of The New York Times, designed and formatted for optimal reading on Flipboard's apps for Android phone and tablet devices and the Amazon Kindle Fire tablet.
The launch is an extension of the NYT Everywhere strategy, which is designed to expand The Times's reach to users on third-party platforms.
Following authentication within Flipboard, existing Times subscribers will have full access to all content on both Android and Kindle Fire. As with other New York Times news applications, the Top News section is free. On Android, non-subscribers will be able to purchase a subscription from The Times directly within the Flipboard app.
The New York Times on Flipboard for Android and Kindle Fire features more than 25 sections of news, information and opinion from business, to politics to style, including full articles, videos, slide shows and blogs.
Denise Warren, general manager, NYTimes.com and senior vice president and chief advertising officer, The New York Times Media Group, said, "This is just another way for Times subscribers to access our rich content on the platforms they use, which is part of our overall NYT Everywhere strategy. And on Android, it's also an opportunity for readers who are not yet subscribers to seamlessly subscribe to The Times without having to leave the Flipboard environment."
The Times is already available on Flipboard for iPhone and iPad.
As with other New York Times news applications, the Top News section is free on both the Flipboard on Android and Flipboard for Kindle Fire apps.
