Pearlfisher’s packaging design for Love Ocean bath time products

Pearlfisher delivers a playful yet purposeful packaging design system that highlights the importance of protecting our oceans.

Love Ocean is a personal care and lifestyle brand on a mission to address the disposable nature of children’s bath products, as well as unite parents and children in a conversation about living more sustainably. Founded by mum-of-two, Gabi Jennings, Love Ocean offers a range of sustainable, natural and ocean-inspired products designed to be loved, refilled and reused. All products are over 98% natural and the body wash is infused with a blend of UK sourced seaweed extracts and organic kelp.
The key objective for the pack design was to bring the wonders of the ocean to the forefront, not only for visual appeal, but to put ocean conservation front of mind.
“It is their generation that will make the difference. We need to empower and inspire them. The bathroom is a focal point of every family home. I set out to create a range of family bathroom products that would put ocean conservation front of mind in every household” – Gabi Jennings.
With this in mind, Pearlfisher created a playful and purposeful new packaging structure inspired by one of the most famous creatures from our ocean - The Whale. The bottles represent the shape of a whale diving into the water, with its majestic tale rising above the surface acting as the lid. The whale tail identity is a key feature for the brand and therefore became the key feature for the packaging.
The simple click-off lid is tactile and highly engaging for children of all ages, designed to entertain at bath-time as well as serve as an ever-present reminder of the importance of ocean conversation.
Furthermore, its shape is reminiscent of a heart, linking to the brand's name with a love for our oceans. The logotype is fluid, suggesting the shape of ocean waves, and tied together with a soothing, seaspray-inspired off-white and ocean blue colour palette.
It’s delightful toy-like features encourage families to treasure and re-use as part of the brand's refill and reuse subscription service. As part of their mission to reduce single use plastics, Love Ocean’s auto-replenishment service delivers three-months product in reusable pouches to your door. These pouches come with a pre-paid envelope to return them to Love Ocean to wash and reuse.
If, however, this is not desired, the bottles are made from 100% recyclable plastic that is able to be widely recycled across the UK. Additionally, Love Ocean has partnered with the Plastic Bank to fund the removal of the equivalent of 1kg of ocean-bound plastic with every bottle of Love Ocean sold.
