EPA Recognizes DTZ with ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year -- Sustained Excellence Award

DTZ Recognized for its Sustained Leadership to Protect the Environment

DTZ, a global leader in commercial real estate services, announced today that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized the firm with a 2015 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award for its continued leadership in protecting our environment through superior energy efficiency achievements. DTZ's accomplishments will be recognized in Washington, DC on April 20, 2015.

DTZ, an ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year since 2013, will be honored for its long-term commitment to energy efficiency.

Key components and accomplishments of DTZ's award winning energy management program include:

DTZ surpassed its initial goal of decreasing total weather-normalized source energy use across its portfolio by 10% compared to the 2010 baseline, achieving a portfolio-wide energy reduction of almost 13%. The company then readjusted energy efficiency goals to reduce energy consumption 10% compared to the 2012 baseline by 2018, and DTZ is on track to meet the 2018 goal with a total reduction of 3.7% since 2012.
DTZ is committed to benchmarking all of its managed properties, a 400 million square foot portfolio in the United States, and has benchmarked more than 420 buildings.
After certifying more than 50 buildings in 2014, DTZ was recognized as an Executive Member of Certification Nation as part of the celebration of ENERGY STAR's 15th anniversary of building certification.
For the EPA's Battle of the Buildings, DTZ submitted 125 buildings to compete from its managed portfolio.

As part of its communications plan, DTZ established a National Energy Management Policy to onboard a property's ENERGY STAR account or create a new one; update property energy usage monthly; host regular Portfolio Training sessions for property managers; and share success stories with colleagues, tenants, owners and the public.
DTZ's Sustainability Services team engaged the firm's brokers to demonstrate the value of benchmarking and ENERGY STAR in markets such as Denver, New York, Washington, DC, Northern Virginia, California and New Jersey.
DTZ's national ENERGY STAR account currently benchmarks more than 70 million square feet of commercial real estate in more than 20 states and the District of Columbia. Since establishing the firm's energy management policy in 2010, DTZ has reduced overall energy consumption by more than 232 million kBtus and reduced the site energy intensity across the portfolio by an average of 8.6 kBtus per square foot.
In 2014, DTZ held a Twitter competition to solicit energy efficiency tips using the hashtag #CTEnergySmart, which received more than 100 submissions. DTZ also shares the successes of its building management programs and engages with the public on how to be more energy efficient using social media such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and the firm's corporate blog http://dtz.cassidyturley.com/ctenergysmart.
"We truly value our partnership with ENERGY STAR," said Allison Porter, DTZ Vice President, Sustainability Services. "It's exciting to see the impact we've made through an array of programs and initiatives, and we remain committed to continuing our work to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect the environment."

Since its inception in 1992, ENERGY STAR and its partners have helped prevent a total of more than 2 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions. In 2013 alone, ENERGY STAR and its partners provided more than $11 billion in societal benefits due to reducing damages from climate change.

"Through their sustained participation with ENERGY STAR, DTZ is helping Americans save money, save energy, and do their part to reduce our nation's greenhouse gas emissions that fuel climate change," said EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy. "I applaud DTZ for earning EPA's highest ENERGY STAR award, the 2015 Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award, demonstrating a strong commitment to energy efficiency and to preserving a healthy planet for future generations."

The 2015 Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Awards are given to a variety of organizations to recognize their contributions to reducing greenhouse gas emissions through superior energy efficiency achievements. These winners have reduced greenhouse gas emissions by setting and achieving aggressive goals, and employing innovative energy efficiency approaches. These awards recognize ongoing leadership across the ENERGY STAR program, including energy-efficient products, services, new homes, and buildings in the commercial, industrial, and public sectors.
