ATA Congratulates EPA SmartWay Excellence Award Winners

16 ATA Members Among This Year's Honorees

Today, American Trucking Associations congratulated the 39 winners of the EPA SmartWay Excellence Awards – particularly the 16 members of ATA who were honored here at the ATA Management Conference & Exhibition.

"For more than a decade, SmartWay has been a model of cooperation between industry and government to tackle a serious issue," ATA President and CEO Bill Graves said. "It is our hope that SmartWay will continue to offer a road map to continued reductions in fuel use and greenhouse gas emissions and I congratulate all the fleets who have already shown tremendous leadership in this arena."

"EPA is pleased to honor these SmartWay Partners with a 2015 Excellence Award," said Chris Grundler, Director, EPA Office of Transportation and Air Quality. "SmartWay carriers work diligently to bring our families the goods we need each day, while contributing to a healthier, more sustainable future for our children."

Among this year's winners of the SmartWay Excellence Award are: Prime Inc., Werner Enterprises, Heritage Transport LLC, Frito-Lay, Old Dominion Freight Line Inc., Edwards Distribution Services Inc., Roehl Transport Inc., Doug Andrus Distributing, UPS Small Package, C.R. England Inc., Knight Transportation Inc., J&M Tank Lines Inc., Con-way Truckload, Covenant Transport, Heartland Express Inc. of Iowa and Swift Transportation Co.

EPA's SmartWay Transport Partnership is a market-driven initiative that empowers businesses to move goods in the cleanest, most energy-efficient way possible, while protecting public health and reducing the impacts of climate change. Demonstration of a commitment to corporate sustainability and social responsibility through SmartWay provides for a more competitive and environmentally-friendly business environment. Since 2004, SmartWay Partners have saved 144.3 million barrels of oil and $20.6 billion in fuel costs. SmartWay's clean air achievements (61.7 million metric tons of carbon dioxide, 1,070,000 tons of nitrogen oxides, and 43,000 tons of particulate matter emissions avoided) help to protect the well-being of citizens.
