With multiple newspapers being produced on a daily basis and 45 outside products, Mediaprint Zeitungsdruck GmbH is Austria's biggest provider of printing services.
To provide the best possible service to readers throughout the whole country, Mediaprint can draw upon 13 presses and mailroom lines in three different locations. Given the economic conditions and the uncertainties of the media scene, in 2010 the shareholders decided to continue operating the machines and installations in the press hall and mailroom until 2017. In order to ensure the availability of the equipment over this period, a RetroFit programme was launched. To secure trouble-free production, it was considered important to take the necessary steps now. In this case, only a sophisticated, made-to-measure solution will lead to success. For the RetroFit project, decisions were based on a status analysis compiled by Ferag, which helped to create a list of priorities. By focusing on the essential, unnecessary costs as well as the loss of flexibility during production have been avoided. After having adapted a pilot installation in summer 2013, the next three mailroom lines can be tackled.
