Even though the 22-year-old Ferag mailroom technology has still been operating reliably, an expansion in newspaper production capacity and a rise in output were required for J.C.C. Bruns Betriebs-GmbH.
The bids from three suppliers were carefully compared, but a well-established business relationship based on trust and Ferag's stable service and technology, were, according to publisher Sven Thomas, good reasons to remain fully committed to Ferag as a customer. Both Line control using Navigator software as well as the option to install double sheet control on three stations was important for the decision-making process. Moreover the investment included a UTR conveyor, plus a FlyStream precollecting system with twelve JetFeeder hoppers. At the heart of the installation is a RollSert inserting drum. Completing the mailroom are two MultiStack compensating stackers with inline topsheet printing, as well as system for foil wrapping and cross strapping the bundles. Because the existing production hall was too small, the plan also covered the construction of a new one. The installation of the new Ferag technology followed quickly: only three months passed from starting the installation to actual production of the daily newspapers.
