Agreement between Canon and i-botics: imaging technology for process automation

- Canon cameras and software in use with robots

- Industry 4.0: Automation of processes
- Take over of small and precise, recurring handles
- Relief of employees from potentially unsafe tasks

Canon has signed a distribution agreement with i-botics WMV Robotics GmbH, based in Ofterdingen near Stuttgart. i-botics is a leading supplier of collaborative assistance systems. These are robots specialized in supporting work processes. These are individually configured with components from various manufacturers to meet a wide range of challenges according to customer requirements. The use of Canon's Industrial Imaging Platform Vision Edition-U software now extends the possibilities of these applications.
Cameras and software from Canon are used to monitor and control processes. i-botics supports factory automation and helps to relieve employees of repetitive or potentially unsafe tasks.
"See" with Canon cameras
The Canon image processing software in conjunction with Canon network cameras is used with Universal Robots (UR). It supports the collaborative robot in performing small and precise tasks. This includes the inspection or assignment of even very small parts during assembly. Here, the Canon network camera VB-H45 with 340° rotation, vertical shift and 20x autofocus zoom "sees" everything that can be important for a production process. QR codes can also be used for task control.
Think" with Canon software
The software checks the presence of components, can read analog displays, texts and numbers and thus also recognize machine states purely optically and pass them on to the robot, which then calls up and executes programmed actions.
Canon Business Development Manager Andreas Herrnböck comments: "i-botics is the ideal sales partner in the German region. We expect to be able to support companies in the transition to Industry 4.0, i.e. the digitalisation of processes. The Canon Industrial Imaging Platform plays an important role here. i-botics has many years of experience in the market for collaborative robots and offers a comprehensive range of products and tailor-made solutions in addition to its consulting expertise".
Torsten Woyke, Managing Director of i-botics, adds: "We are looking forward to working with Canon, our proven and experienced partner, to expand our sales in the German market. Canon is a reliable supplier of industry solutions with strong service and support. We look forward to offering our portfolio of solutions to a wider range of customers and applications with Canon's unique Industrial Imaging Platform".
